Una amor / odio conexión

smile

Este es mi perro, Cooper. Amo a mi perro!

Odio a mi perro.

No, no, amo a mi perro.

Hola

smile
Hola mis amigos guapos y hermosas y bonitos y lindas. (no feo)

Soy alto, estoy feliz? Somos hombres pero estamos casados?

Tengo mucho sueño. Basta por ahora.

Another dive

smile
Yesterday we did a dive that changed my negative opinion of diving in Hawaii.

While it still wasn't the lush Caribbean teeming with life, it was a beautiful reef with countless turtles which, no matter how many you see, never get boring.

We're packing to head home today. Which I am totally fine with. I'm ready to get home.

I learned yesterday that Monsters has made it to round two for the Eugene O'Neill Musical Theater Conference... which is very prestigious.

I also got an email indicating that I may have a job offer waiting for me when I get back.

Good stuff.

Naked Comedy

smile
We went to the Naked Comedy Showcase last night at the People's Improv Theater.

We were joined by [info]railguy and [info]bearfuz and a few non-lj folk. Yes, unlike Santa or Jesus who you may have heard a lot about recently, they actually exist.

The comedy was good at points. I got the impression that these guys (and one girl) were using this opportunity to work out the kinks in their new material. Which is fine. Not something i would ever do. I am the queen of preparation.

The nudity became inconsequential as I suspected. The parts of the show that really focused on "Gee my dick is hanging out" are the parts I felt were the most tedious. Focusing on the oddity of the nudity defeats the purpose of the nudism.

They did not however, invite anyone up to strip and tell a joke. I think they probably do that only when they don;t have a full bill. Last night they had 7 comedians doing 10 minute sets and that took up all the time.

I sent the guy that runs it a note and a link to some of my more twisted songs.

If I can get a ten minute set in this gig, I'm there. And I will foray into the world of musical stand-up.

This won't be a leap. Generally when I perform I do mostly comedy anyway. And yet, should something not land, in that forum I get to hide behind the title "musician"

But I've always wanted the title "comic".

More to come in this regard.

I'm not big on resolutions, but a goal of mine this year is to break that seal and finally do some form of stand up.

Yesterday

Too much fun...

Spend the afternoon in my hometown visiting with old high school friends. Then dinner with an even older friend, my friend Charlie from elementary school, and his wife and their two hysterically funny children.

Too much wine was consumed in both places.

This has been a holiday season of reconnecting. And it's nice to see that all my old friends are doing so well.

It's been a while

Since I took images off my camera... so here are some highlights from the past few weeks.

20 years ago today

smile
Greg turning 50 a couple of years ago didn't make me feel old.

Turning 40 this year didn't make me feel old.

Today is the 20th anniversary of the Lockerbie Crash in Scotland.

Having a friend that's been dead longer than she was alive... that makes me feel old.

I wrote this nearly 20 years ago.

How was England

I tried to write something new this week, something to bookend 20 years and give a current perspective...

I came up with this.

It Still Happens )

and more about me...

smile
Well i guess it is *my* blog so I shouldn't feel awkward about it as waves of nostalgia, or nausea, Naustalgia! overcome me...

If you know me, you know how much of a stickler for form and rhyme and craft I am. I had a fantasy many years ago of ushering in a whole new set of standards into the American Songbook. I wrote about ten songs in this style... most of which suck... a few of which... like this one... ended up on some cabaret CDs like this one Ida Zecco - Better To Have Loved.

I never finished that project. As much as I like writing that way, i just don't have that kind of Sinatra croon or Mel Torme lilt in my voice. But there are a few pieces to salvage from that wreckage.

As Long as I Live
smile
Ok, more on the Ernie retrospective theme as I keep tip-tap-typing away getting my material uploaded...

Rule #2: Never write songs about horrifying world events. Songs about starving children and genocide and holocausts....

How many horrifyingly bad songs did you hear after 9/11.

And yet I wrote one.

Of course you wouldn't know it's about that unless I told you. I wanted to write something hopeful, and yet with the knowledge that to have hope sometimes you just have to outright lie to yourself. Like we've all been doing for 8 years now.

It came across like a bombastic Disney song.

But hey... I'm actually kind of fond of it. And two other people have recorded it so it can't be _that_ bad.

One Perfect Day

Oh and if you go to my sight and notice the new snazzy rounded smooth-curved headers and footers, special thanks to [info]chrisglass for that!

I'm having a dilemma about my sheet music. I designed this site so it would be available for download. And I don't mind giving it away. 5 dollars here, 5 dollars there... it's just unmanageable... but I should keep track in some way of who downloads what...

Now I have to rethink my information architecture and decide on how to deal with this... or if I should care at all.

Spinach Fettuccine tossed with sage/rosemary butter, almonds and poppy seeds in 10 minutes flat

1. Boil water: Get some fresh Spinach Fettuccine, you COULD make your own but that would take the "simplestest" part out of this, toss it in boiling water
2. Melt 3 TBS of butter in a pan
3. Add several sage leaves and a large sprig of fresh rosemary to the butter. Let that infuse on low so the butter doesn't burn for about 4 or 5 minutes
4. Remove the sage and rosemary from the butter, toss in sliced almonds. Let simmer for a minute
5. Toss cooked fettuccine into the saucepan with the butter and almonds
6. Sprinkle liberally with poppyseeds
7. Eat.
8. Be happy
